Social Palace
At its height, about two thousand workers and their families chose to live together at Guise, including Godin and his wife and children. He shared in daily life and managed to run a profitable enterprise, reinvesting those profits to ensure that the Social Palace's residents had access to services and opportunities rare for other members of the working classes in France at the time: theatre performances, lectures, education for their children, and leisure associations.
